Christmas gifts spread joy to Vernon's mental health clients
Vernon Morning Star - 11/11/2023
North Okanagan residents can spread some Christmas cheer to those struggling with mental health concerns.
As the holiday season near, the Vernon and District branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association is looking for monetary donation or new, unwrapped items to be put out among clients and participants.
"For many, this can be a very isolating time of year, and this may be the only gift they receive at Christmas," said Hannah Rail, CMHA Vernon's recreation coordinator. "We are extremely grateful for the generosity of North Okanagan residents and their support of the Seasons of Giving campaign will make a significant difference in the lives of those navigating mental health."
More than 200 participants received gifts through the 2022 campaign.
All monetary donations will go towards purchasing gifts. They can be made by cash or cheque at the CMHA office at 3100-28th Ave., or online at https://cmhavernon.ca/ways-to-get-involved/.
If you'd like to donate a new unwrapped gift, CMHA offers the following suggestions:
• Winter gloves, scarfs, toques, socks, hand warmers;
• Board games, crossword/Sudoku books, journals, puzzles;
• Toiletries such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, combs;
• Small denomination gift cards from businesses such as restaurants or coffee shops.
Donations can be dropped off at CMHA Vernon. The deadline to submit is Nov. 30.
